Saudi Arabia: 8 teens held for tossing stones at cars
Cairo: Eight teenagers were arrested in the Saudi region of Jizan for throwing stones at passing cars and smashing their glass, a local police official has said.
Video clips circulated on social media showing a group of youngsters intercepting vehicles in a village in Jizan late at night and tossing stones at them, Saudi media reported.
The eight assailants were identified and found to be aged between 14 and 17, spokesman for the Jizan region's police Brig Nayaf Al Hukami said in a press statement.
If convicted, the eight could face up to one year in jail to be served in a correctional institute for being minors, a lawyer told Saudi news portal Sabq.
They also face compensation claims for vandalising private properties, i.e. vehicles, and a fine for violating a nighttime curfew in place as part of measures to stem the spread of the new coronavirus, lawyer Khaled Bekheet added.
