Dubai: More than 130 Saudi citizens and expatriates have been arrested for their alleged involvement in corruption, Saudi Arabia’s anti-graft authority revealed yesterday.

In a statement, the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) said that it has ordered the arrest of 136 citizens and expats, including employees from the ministries of defence, interior, National Guard, health, justice, municipal and rural affairs and housing and education.

The charges brought against them ranged from bribery to abuse of power and forgery. They were arrested during 914 inspection raids carried out by the Nazaha teams from mid-May to mid-June.

The arrests followed investigations into the alleged role of 562 people. Nazaha said legal procedures are being completed before referring them to court.
