Manama: An Indian family in Kerala was moments away from burying their son who had died in Saudi Arabia when they were shocked to discover they had been sent the wrong body.

According to Indian reports, Razak, the father of the deceased, said that when they opened the coffin just before the burial, they found the body of a woman.

His son, 29-year-old Rafeeq who worked in a firm in Saudi Arabia died of a heart attack on February 28.

The body was sent to the family for burial. However, in an unfortunate mix-up, the family received the body of a woman reportedly from Sri Lanka. Rafeeq’s body was sent to Sri Lanka.

“Rafeeq’s body has reached Sri Lanka. We got a call from there and the caller said the body at Konni is that of Bendara Maneki, a Lankan woman,” Konni Circle Inspector said.

“We have requested that the woman’s body be sent to her country and bring Rafeeq’s remains to Kerala,” the official was quoted as saying.
