COVID-19: Saudi Arabia reports 3,366 new cases
39 more deaths take total virus-related fatalities to 932 in Kingdom
Dubai: Saudi Arabia has crossed the 120,000-mark in coronavirus cases after witnessing a spike in recent weeks.
The biggest Gulf country reported 3,366 new cases on Saturday taking the tally to 123,308.
During the daily media briefing, the Ministry of Health also announced 39 more deaths, raising the total number of virus-related fatalities to 932 in the Kingdom.
The ministry reported the recovery of 1,519 COVID-19 patients, pushing the total number of patients recovered to 82,548.
Saudi Arabia has recently seen a spike in new infections as it eases stringent lockdown measures, with the number of daily cases exceeding 3,000 for the eighth day in a row.
Most of today’s cases were reported again in Riyadh (1,089), making up nearly 40 per cent of the daily count, followed by Jeddah with 527 cases and Mecca with 310.
Meanwhile Dammam, Medina, Al Khobar and Qatif reported 227, 191, 176, 163 and 114 new infections respectively.
There are 39,828 active cases who were undergoing treatment and had stable health conditions, however, 1,843 were critical, the ministry revealed.
Saudi Arabia recorded its first case for coronavirus on March 2 and the country's health ministry predicted cases between 10,000 to 200,000 in April. On May 16, the country of 34 million people recorded 50,000 cases of coronavirus.
