COVID-19: Saudi Arabia reports 1,088 new cases, 5 deaths

This brings total number of coronavirus infections in the country to 9,362

Dubai: Saudi Arabia reported 1,088 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 9,362, the Ministry of Health announced on Sunday.

Meaenwhile, the ministry reported 69 recoveries today, with total recoveries in the kingdom at 1,398. There are 93 cases in intensive care.

The ministry also confirmed 5 deaths on Sunday, bringing the total number of deaths in the kingdom to 97.

Ramadan prayers

Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, the highest religious authority in the country, said that prayers during Ramadan and for Eid al Fitr should be performed at home if the coronavirus outbreak continues, Saudi's Okaz newspaper reported on Friday.

"Ramadan's Taraweeh (evening) prayer can be performed at home if it cannot be performed at mosques due to the preventive measures taken to fight the spread of coronavirus," he said in response to a question, adding that the same applies for Eid prayers, according to the paper.
