The relevant procedures have been taken, the ministry posted on its Twitter account.

Millions of people on private vehicles, buses and trucks have been using the busy causeway over the years, with a daily average of more than 40,000, making it among the most used traffic stretches in the Arab world.

The causeway is the only terrestrial link between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and there are plans to build a new one.
