Cairo: A fire erupted in a hotel in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Tuesday, injuring 22 people, a medical official has said.

Ambulance teams, alerted by the civil defence service, rushed to the site of the blaze in eastern Riyadh on Tuesday, spokesman for the city’s Red Crescent Authority Yassir Al Jalajal said.

Twenty of the 22 injured people had minor injuries and were treated on the site, while two others were transferred to the King Abdul Aziz Medical City in Riyadh, he added, according to Al Riyadh newspaper.

The official called on motorists to clear the road for ambulances in emergencies to have a swift access to cases.

“Ambulance cars should not be chased while transferring cases, as this poses a danger to ambulatory teams and their arrival is hampered by these irresponsible acts,” he added.
