Dubai: The Saudi police have arrested 17 Bangladeshi expatriates for gambling in Riyadh, local media reported on Sunday.

The police raided an apartment where the suspects practice gambling in a neighbourhood in the capital, Colonel Shaker Al Tuwaijri, the media spokesperson for Riyadh Police, said.

“The police monitored the house after receiving information that Bangladeshi expatriates were gathering there during the weekends and using cards to gamble,” Col. Al Tuwaijri said.

The suspects were arrested red handed in possession of a huge amount of money and referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action. They have been detained pending investigation and trial.

Gambling is strictly prohibited in Saudi Arabia under Islamic law.
