100% of Saudi population receives 5 basic services
Everyone has access to education, safe water, electricity, communications, sanitation
Abu Dhabi: Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics said the 100 per cent of Saudi people were living in households and receiving basic services such as education, safe water, electricity, communications, sanitation and household waste collection by the end of 2019, while access to safe water recorded 99.7 per cent.
The indicators of the sustainable development goals were revealed in the statistics authority’s 2020 report, where it addressed 17 goals.
Saudi spending on basic services (education, health, social development) at the end of 2019 amounted to about 37 per cent of total government spending, the authority said.
Zero hunger
This indicator aims to end all forms of malnutrition, by 2030, including achieving internationally agreed targets on stunting in children under five, and addressing the nutritional needs of adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women and older adults, by 2025.
The percentage of children suffering from stunted growth, males and females, by the end of 2019 in Saudi Arabia, was about 8.1 per cent, down from 11.1 per cent in 2017.
As for Saudi children who suffer from wasting, their percentage at the end of 2019 amounted to about 4.3 per cent, and the percentage of children who are overweight decreased from 3.2 per cent in 2018 to 2.6 per cent at the end of 2019.
With regard to the percentage of local breeds that are classified as at risk of extinction, the number of local breeds at the end of 2019 reached 4,243, representing 3.72 per cent.
Healthy lifestyles
Among the objectives of this indicator is to reduce the global maternal mortality rate to less than 70 per 100,000 live births, as the ratio in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2018 reached about 11.9, and the mortality rate for children under five years of age per 1,000 live births was about 8.50, while the neonatal mortality rate per 1,000 live births decreased from 5 in 2017 to 3.60 in 2018.
With regard to HIV infections, the number of infections per 1000 of the population by the end of 2019 was about 0.027, while the incidence of tuberculosis per 100,000 population was about 8.78, and about 0.0059 people infected with malaria per 1,000 people.
As for the death rate from suicide per 100,000, the rate was 1.67.
