Manama: Qatar’s two-year crisis with Gulf neighbours has dragged on due to the tiny emirate’s arrogance and intransigence, according to Bahraini Foreign Minister Khalid Bin Ahmad Al Khalifa.

“Two years of rejecting solutions, arrogance, intransigence and alienation from [Gulf] brothers,” the minister tweeted.

He also accused Qatar of ambivalence.

“It welcomes mediation while closes doors of success. It repeats the term dialogue and empties it of every sense,” he added.

His remarks were made as the dispute entered its third year.

In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt broke off diplomatic and transportation links with Qatar over its support for extremist groups.

The quartet has set several conditions to mend ties with Qatar, including the emirate’s severance of links with militant and terror groups.

Doha has refused the conditions, saying they violate its sovereignty.

The Bahrain official accused the Qatari government of ignoring the Qataris’ interests and their family, economic and social links with their Gulf milieu by blocking potential solutions to the row.

“It’s recalcitrance and loss of vision,” he said.

Earlier this week, hopes faded for an end to the crisis after Qatar expressing reservations on a final communique issued by crisis Gulf and Arab summits held in the Saudi city of Makkah on Iran’s regional escalation.

The gatherings stressed Gulf unity and condemned Iran’s meddling in the Arab region.
