Online photo exhibition showcases Oman and UK friendship

Helped to commemorate country’s 50th National Day yesterday

Muscat: The Anglo Omani Society, in cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman’s embassy in the United Kingdom, organized an online photo exhibition commemorating Oman’s 50th National Day yesterday.

Oman’s ambassador to the UK along with other dignitaries were present when the exhibition was announced open. The highlights of the exhibition were the introductions by Prince Charles and Oman’s youth icon and the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Dhi Yazan Bin Haitham Al Tariq.

Entitled “The Sultanate of Oman and Britain” the displays on this unique exhibition features a gallery of images reflecting the many and varied aspects of Britain’s cooperation with the Sultanate over years. The occasion also saw the Oman Embassy in the UK launch a booklet “The Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom - A Celebration of Friendship” in cooperation with the First Foundation.

The booklet included a message from Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, about the past five decades of building modern Oman during the leadership of late Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The booklet also carried a message from Queen Elizabeth II thanking Sultan Haitham and congratulating him on the occasion of the 220th anniversary of bilateral relations between the Oman and the UK.

The booklet’s content include letters from Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Hinai, the Sultanate’s accredited ambassador to the United Kingdom, and Hamish Cowell the British ambassador to the Sultanate, among other articles. Reports from government officials and key figures from both countries, reviewing the features of bilateral relations as well as historical and friendly ties between the two countries also figure in the booklet.
