Oman Air Force evacuates 23 people stuck due to heavy rains
Weather charts expect a decline in the intensity of tropical conditions gradually
Dubai: The Royal Oman Air Force (RAFO) has conducted a rescue operation for 23 people who were stuck in Marmul region due to heavy rains in Dhofar governorate.
A statement issued by National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) said, “The Royal Air Force carried out a rescue operation for 23 people who were detained as a result of torrential rains at a site belonging to an oil company in the Marmul region.
Also on Sunday, the RAFO carried out a medical evacuation operation for an Omani citizen suffering from health problems.
The patient was transported by a RAFOhelicopter from Masirah Hospital to Ibra Hospital in North Al Sharqiyah to receive medical care.
The operation comes within the framework of the humanitarian services rendered to citizens and expats across the Sultanate by the Sultan’s Armed Forces and the other units of the Ministry of Defence alongside other state departments, according to Oman News Agency.
Earlier yesterday, three people died due unpreceded rains which lashed various parts of Oman. One of the three died after an old building used for accommodation for expats collapsed in the central Salalah region.
Weather charts expect a decline in the intensity of tropical conditions gradually from Monday evening, the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) said in its latest alert.
According to the PACA alert, heavy rains still continue in Dhofar Governorate and it will be concentrated on the western side of the governorate and desert areas. The rainfall amounts may range between 100 and 200 mm in the next 24 hours.
