COVID-19: Muscat International Airport first in Middle East to get health accreditation certificate
Will instill confidence among passengers during coronavirus pandemic
Muscat: Muscat International Airport (MIA) has been awarded an airport health accreditation certificate by the Airports Council International (ACI).
Muscat International Airport is the first airport in the Middle East to obtain this international certificate that was approved by the ACI to ensure health standards in the airports around the world.
Especially under the current circumstances that has affected the airports and air travel due to the coronavirus pandemic, this accreditation serves to instill confidence among flyers.
Airports Council International (ACI) located in Montreal Quebec, Canada is a global trade representative of all the airports around the world. It acts as the voice of the airports and represents airports interests with Governments and international organizations such as ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) and also works alongside IATA (International Air Transportation Association).
ACI is also involved in developing standards, policies and recommended practices for airports, and provides information and training opportunities to raise standards of airports around the world.
COVID-19 compliant
Oman Airports resumed for normal commercial airline operations from 1 October after ensuring that the airport was COVID-19 compliant, with a series of new SOPs (standard operating procedures) for staff and travellers. Oman Airport has recently set up a PCR testing facility inside the airport at the Muscat International Airport and also at the Salalah Airport for the convenient COVID-19 testing of the passengers arriving into Oman.
There is also drive-through that has been erected at the parking facility of the Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport the service of which can be utilised by all residents with valid resident card and citizens.
Oman mandates a 14-day quarantine for those arriving passengers who plan to stay for more than seven days in Oman who will be fitted with a monitoring wrist band. The wearer is also expected to self-report symptoms if any using Tarassud+ app, as well as notify the medical team on the numbers given, in case of an emergency.
After the mandatory quarantine period is over, the person must visit the closest medical centre, where after checking, the wrist band will be removed.
