Beat that! Man grows 8kg beetroot in Oman farm

Muscat: Khalid bin Hilal Al-Hajji has harvested in his farm a single beetroot that weighs a little more than 8 kilograms.

He planted the sapling six months back in his farm in Manah town and while the rest of the crop harvested were normal in size and weight, this whooper came as a surprise package.

Oman has been producing successful agricultural stories lately thanks to the enterprising spirit of Omani farmers and also the proactive assistance given to the farmers by the Oman’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR).

MAFWR has been seriously engaged in making Oman self-sufficient in agricultural produces and has successfully launched many schemes to enhance food security and provide economic sustainability to farmers.

Huge takers

Fruits grown in Oman such as pomegranates, grapes, figs, mangoes and dates as well as farm produces such as olives, coconut, and various other vegetables have huge takers in the whole of GCC countries and beyond.

More recently the Ministry announced that a pilot farm project consisting of date palm, mango and lemon farms is set to be implemented soon.

The project is planned to be executed in cooperation with farmers and will be done in various governorates in Oman.
