Dubai: Kuwait on Wednesday announced 28 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of infected people to 317. In a press conference, Dr. Abdullah Al Sanad, Health Ministry’s spokesperson, said seven COVID-19 sufferers have fully recovered, pushing the total recoveries to 80.
He said the new cases are linked to travel. The newly infected people were in close contact with previously diagnosed persons who came from abroad. They include 22 Indians, two Bangladeshi and one Nepalese and three Kuwaitis. They have been put under quarantine.
The announcement comes amid growing calls by Kuwaiti celebrities and social media influencers to deport expatriates due to lack of healthcare facilities in the small Gulf state.
Renowned Kuwaiti actress Hayat Al Fahd caused an uproar by calling for deporting expatriates as the country is fighting to curb the spread of the deadly global pandemic. In a phone-in interview with Kuwaiti TV station ATV, the veteran actress lashed out at the illegals, blaming them for problems in her country.
