Kuwait: Egyptian killed by thieves he was trying to stop
Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi: A heroic Egyptian ironworker was run over and killed outside a farm in Al Wafra, the southernmost area in Kuwait, by a group of thieves driving a truck loaded with stolen iron rods, Kuwaiti media reported.
Acting on a tip-off, the police moved to the scene and found the Egyptian ironworker,35, was dead. The body was sent to the forensic lab and an autopsy will be submitted to the Public Prosecution, police said.
Omar Sharar Al Azmi, the Kuwaiti employer of the ironworker, identified as Adel, said at exactly four o'clock in the morning, when Adel went to his work on the farm, located near the Kuwait–Saudi Arabia border, he saw a group of thieves stealing iron rods from the farm as construction work was going on there.
“The thieves loaded a lorry, but Adel refused to see the theft with his eyes and keep silent, so he resisted the thieves and tried to stop the lorry, but he fell under it and was run over. His colleagues rushed him to a nearby clinic, but Adel succumbed to his injuries before they reach it,” Al Azmi said.
Al Azmi vowed to pay Adel’s salary until his three-month-old daughter grows up.
Adel arrived in Kuwait on a work visa on the farm, six years ago. He was the breadwinner of his wife, a baby daughter, his mother and two sisters, after the death of his father.
Adel has not seen his daughter, as he traveled home last year, got married and spent his honeymoon, before he returned to Kuwait.
Al Azmi paid tribute to Adel saying he was a kind, gentle young man, who cared only about his work. “He was always quiet, rarely asked anything for himself, but was loved very much among his colleagues,” Al Azmi said.
The mother of the victim, Nour Al Huda, told Al Rai in a sad voice, “My son tried to defend his livelihood even though he does not work as a guard, but rather an ironworker. He refused to see his workplace being stolen in front of his eyes.”
Nour Al Huda added Adel got married on July 3, last year, and he spent about one month in the village, after which he returned to Kuwait. He rejoiced when he learned that his wife was pregnant, then God blessed him with his daughter Nour, 3 months, and he only saw her in the photos that were sent by his wife.”
The victim’s mother said, "Thanks to God for his justice and destiny, and we hope that the criminals will be brought to justice as soon as possible."
