Cairo: The recruitment and return of Filipino domestic workers to Kuwait will resume soon, a Kuwaiti unionist said.

“The return process will take place after the Kuwaiti and Philippine sides agree on all provisions related to the contracts and rights of labour while heeding all health stipulations amid the coronavirus pandemic,” head of Kuwait’s Union for Domestic Labour Khalid Al Dakhnan added.

He said in media remarks that the recruitment offices in Kuwait will be able to receive recruitment applications from Kuwaiti citizens once an announcement is made about the start of recruitment in the “coming days”.

Global pandemic

The union has made “gigantic efforts” with the competent agencies with the aim of resuming of recruitment of the domestic workers from the Philippines amid the global pandemic and sorting out outstanding issues with the Philippine side, he said.

Regarding the arrival date for the Filipino labour in Kuwait, Al Dakhnan said that the recruitment offices will initiate “immediately” on the process once contract endorsement starts and following the routine procedures that will take less than a month.

The Philippines enforced a ban on sending new domestic workers to Kuwait back in January 2020, after a Filipino domestic worker was sexually abused and killed by her employer.
