COVID-19: Bahrain MPs opt for home isolation as virus hits the parliament
2 staffers test positive, 5 others placed under domestic quarantine
Cairo: Six members of the Bahraini parliament have gone into domestic isolation after two employees at the assembly tested positive for the novel coronavirus, media reports said Sunday.
The general secretariat of the parliament denied "inaccurate" reports in circulation and said no member of the 40-strong Council of Representatives has contracted the virus.
"Six of the deputies, who have recently undergone tests, proved to have not caught the virus and results of the tests were negative. They are now in domestic quarantine," the secretariat added, according to Bahraini newspaper Al Watan.
Two of the council's staff have tested positive for COVID-19 while five others, who were in contact with them, have gone into mandatory domestic quarantine, it added.
All legal advisors at the parliament underwent coronavirus tests that proved negative, according to the secretariat.
The assembly said it is keen to abide by precautionary measures against the virus.
Bahrain so far has recorded a total of 25,267 coronavirus cases and 78 related deaths.
