Bahrain: Police foils attempt to smuggle 16 gold bars outside Kingdom

Dubai: Bahrain’s security authorities have arrested eight Asian expats attempting to smuggle 16 gold bars outside the Kingdom through Bahrain International Airport, local media reported.

The Ports Security announced airport police arrested the suspects aged 32-42 for attempting to traffic gold bars worth 43,000 Bahraini dinars.

The gold smuggling operation was thwarted by the airport police personnel while carrying out the routine security inspection and checking the luggage of departing travellers. The gold bars were hidden in the suspects’ luggage.

The suspects were referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and legal action.
