Uttar Pradesh: Even as his neighbours looked on – some recording – a man beat his wife so viciously that later she died of internal injuries.

A man known for his alcoholism, Dhanraj was seen battering his wife in a video that has since gone viral. In the Korihar village of Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh, the man was seen beating his wife in front of their six-year-old son. He has since been arrested and her body sent for post mortem.

The graphic video of the incident used as evidence was shot by his neighbour, say Indian media reports.

"We got information about a woman's murder. When the police reached there, the woman was frothing from the mouth. We have sent the body for post-mortem. We have also taken note of the viral video and contacted the family of the woman. Police have also detained the husband of the woman. We will act accordingly after getting post-mortem report," Nityanand Rai, Additional SP, was quoted as saying by TimesNow.

While an arrest has been welcomed, there’s also been a flurry of anger in the Twittersphere – after all, if the neighbours could film the incident, surely they could intervene and save the woman wailing in pain.
