Fire erupts at Philippine General Hospital in Ermita, Manila

Firefighters raised the first alarm at 3:09 pm, escalating to second alarm 2 minutes later

Manila: A fire erupted at the main building of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Ermita, Manila on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) raised the first alarm at 3:09 pm, escalating to the second alarm two minutes later.

As of the latest update, firefighters are still battling the blaze. It's not immediately clear what triggered the fire.

On X platform, the office of the Student Regent stated: "Patients, doctors, nurses, nurses, and staff of Philippine General Hospital evacuate as fire starts in wards 1 and 3, prompting a second alarm."

"According to UPM USC (UP Manila University Students Council), patients are in need of bag valve masks and oxygen tanks as they temporarily stay in the PGH Atrium."
