Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday expressed satisfaction that his government had made some contributions in the first 100 days of governance.

Addressing a ceremony at the completion of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) first 100 days in government at the Convention Centre, Khan said the government tried to benefit common people with its policies in these 100 days.

He countered criticism that the PTI government had done nothing in first 100 days of rule, saying that the government had achieved a number of goals.

Thanking the first lady for putting up with his tough schedule, Khan said that Bushra Begum helped him in difficult times “I have taken just one day off in 100 days,” he said.

Khan also hit hard on the corrupt for looting the poor masses’ hard-earned money. “Corruption has ruined the country’s institutions,” Khan said. “Until taking office, I didn’t know the volume and extent of corruption the country had to suffer in the past,” he added.

He once again criticised the country’s premier anti-graft body, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), saying it should be ready to face criticism as conviction rates in the cases it filed were only 30 per cent, while there is 75 per cent convictions in corruption cases in Malaysia.

According to the prime minister, the PTI government is trying to introduce a uniform curriculum across the county, in an attempt to bring children back to school.

In the first 100 days, the PTI government had also strengthened the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to curb money laundering and the government has booked bigwigs involved in power theft.

Agreements have also been signed with 26 countries, to share information and recover assets. Land worth Rs350 billion (Dh9.575 billion) has been recovered as part of the anti-encroachment drive launched by the PTI government.

“The government has also allotted land to build shelters for poor people in Rawalpindi and Lahore,” Khan added. Khan said the government had decided all poor households would be given health cards.
