IG, senior police officials defer decision to go on leave after army chief’s assurance
Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that his government stands resolutely with the provincial police force in its testing times.
The CM said that he would not let the provincial police force get demoralized in any situation.
Shah said this on Wednesday as he met senior officials of Sindh Police here at Chief Minister House. He met the senior police officials including Inspector-General (IG) of Sindh Police, Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar, after they decided to defer their decision to proceed on leave in protest following an assurance by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa to probe the incident of alleged abduction of the IG Sindh to pressurise him for lodging a criminal case and ordering arrest of Captain (retired) Mohammad Safdar, son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Earlier, the senior police officials said they would go on leave to show their resentment at the humiliation faced by the provincial police chief.
While meeting the senior police officials, Sindh CM acknowledged that the Sindh Police had rendered innumerable sacrifices to restore law and order situation in the province. He particularly mentioned the sacrifices by the policemen for restoring peace in Karachi.
He said that the Sindh Police had made important arrests following major terrorism incidents. “I acknowledge the services, sacrifices, and professional capabilities of the police,” Shah said.
He said that his government would always let the Sindh Police work independently and neutrally and would also take steps to further enhance its professional capabilities
Bilawal visits Sindh IG
Earlier on Tuesday night, Chairman Pakistan Peoples’ Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited the residence of Sindh IG Mushtaq Mahar to express solidarity with the police force and appreciated its role as a frontline civilian force against crimes and terrorism in the province.
Accompanied by the Sindh CM, the PPP Chairman assured the Sindh Police officers gathered at the residence of the IG that Sindh Government and he, as the head of the ruling party in the province, had condemned the incident (of IG’s humiliation) as the Sindh Police fought valiantly against crimes and terrorism. It fought bravely against enemies and saved the foreign relations of the country during an attack on the Chinese Consulate-General in Karachi. Sindh Police personnel also protected the economic icon of Pakistan, the Karachi Stock Exchange, when it was attacked by terrorists and embraced martyrdom during their sacred duty, he added.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa had assured him of a transparent inquiry into the incident and hoped its results would also be out soon. Sindh government has also ordered a ministerial-level inquiry into the incident.
