New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Dhananjay Munde on Tuesday demanded a probe into the death of Gopinath Munde after a cyber expert claimed the former union minister was killed because he was aware of the hacking of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in the 2014 general elections.

Dhananjay, who is nephew of Gopinath, sought a probe by either a Supreme Court (SC) judge or the intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (Raw).

“A cyber expert has made a sensational claim that former Union Minister Late Gopinath Munde was murdered. This claim needs immediate attention and investigation from Raw/Supreme Court, as it is directly linked to the death of mass leader,” Dhananjay, who is the Leader of the Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council, tweeted.

Dhananjay said he always wondered if his uncle’s death was an accident or sabotage.

“Everybody who followed Gopinath Munde’s leadership and loved him had raised questions about his death. Hence, the startling claims made by the cyber expert in a live press conference backs the suspicion. After today’s revelation, the doubt has been addressed. If the claim of EVM hacking is true, then it also violates the norms of the biggest democracy of the world,” he alleged.

Hacker Syed Shuja also claimed that National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmad, who was investigating Gopinath’s death and was planning to file a formal complaint in the matter, was also killed.

However, in October 2014, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had ruled out any foul play in the death of Gopinath.

“Gopinath Munde died due to injuries sustained in a road accident,” the CBI had said in a written statement.
