Man jumps in front of moving train, wife follows suit

The ex-judge is thought to have committed suicide because of ill health

Tirupati: A retired judge and his wife committed suicide one after the other by jumping in front of moving trains here, police said on Saturday.

Sixty-two-year-old P. Sudhakar on Friday by jumped in front of a moving train on the Tirupati-Renigunta railway track. Unable to bear the shock of her husband's death, P. Varalashmi (56) also committed suicide by train at the same spot.

Sudhakar, who retired as additional district judge in 2014, is suspected to have committed suicide due to ill-health.

According to the police, he left behind a suicide note at home in which he said nobody was responsible for his death.

The railway police found the body on the track and after identification the family was informed.

A few hours later, Sudhakar's wife left the house without informing family members. Late in the evening her body was also found on the railway track. The couple is survived by a son and daughter.
