New Delhi: India's Supreme Court is set to pass the order on Maharashtra at 10.30am local time (9am UAE time) on Tuesday, Indian media reported on Monday.
On Saturday, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Maharashtra chief minister for the second consecutive term, while NCP leader and Sharad Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar took oath as Deputy Chief Minister.
Ajit Pawar has reportedly betrayed the National Congress Party (NCP) and his uncle Sharad Pawar.
There had been calls for the Indian President to step in to tackle Maharashtra mess.
The Supreme Court was originally set to rule Sunday on the series of messy events that were triggered by constitutional functionaries from the BJP to grab power in India’s richest state – Maharashtra, which also sends the second largest contingent (48) to the Indian Parliament.
Earlier, BJP's counsel Mukul Rohatgi, citing Constitutional provisions, said procedures of the Assembly, like pro-tempore speaker, cannot be interfered with.
A joint plea of Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress was lodged against Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari's decision inviting Devendra Fadnavis to form the government on November 23.
Pawar, the NCP defector, was made deputy chief minister to the BJP’s Fadnavis, who is back as chief minister in an early morning coup on Saturday.
Senior Advocate Devadutt Kamat for Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena earlier said in their petition, they have requested the Supreme Court to call a special session of the 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Sunday and sought urgent direction for a floor test to be conducted urgently.
