Bollywood stars who came under fire for wardrobe choices

In an ideal world, what you choose to wear is inevitably a personal call, but do these rules apply to public figures idolised by millions? Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor is facing such a dilemma when her top -- that had an Indian deity Ram emblazoned on it -- was posted on her account. While the War actress took down the controversial pic and is currently being bombarded by trolls and haters commenting on her sartorial choices. Gulf News tabloid! looks at a few other stars who have faced a similar predicament in the past ...

PRIYANKA CHOPRA: It was a matter of reflected pride when global icon met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Berlin back in 2017. But her knee-length dress did not sit pretty with many as they called her choice of attire ‘indecent’. According to her haters, revealing your knee infront of world leader was unbecoming. But Chopra didn’t take the trolls lying down. She gave an apt and unapologetic response to her trolls by sharing another photograph of herself along with her mother Madhu Chopra, both flashing their legs. She captioned it: “legs for days.... #itsthegenes”. In several interviews with Gulf News tabloid!, she has made it clear that she never wasted her time on haters.

FATIMA SANA SHAIKH: The Indian actress, who shot to fame with Dangal, came under fire for posting a bikini pic as she holidayed in Maldives during the holy month of Ramadan in 2017. Many felt she was inappropriately dressed during that month.

JANHVI KAPOOR: Her length of her dress was the subject of a hot debate recently, with several haters commenting that she forgot to wear pants along with her top when she stepped out to a restaurant with actor Ishaan Khatter in Mumbai. While Jhanvi did not react to her haters and the vitriolic trolls, her half-brother and actor Arjun Kapoor hit back at an Indian digital media outlet that wrote about it extensively and urged digital media editors to choose better stories as click baits. More recently, she was slammed for wearing a form-fitting bodycon dress in Mumbai.

DISHA PATANI: Patani attracted haters when she made the questionable choice of wishing her fans ‘Happy Diwali’ by pairing an embellished lehenga – an Indian traditional skirt -- with a beige bra from a fashion brand that she endorses. Many took offense to her sartorial choice and lashed out at her for disrespecting Indian culture and traditions.

NYSA DEVGN: Last week, Ajay Devgn’s 16-year-old daughter (seen her with mom Kajol) was slammed for wearing a sporty midriff-baring cropped top and jegging in a temple in Mumbai. Many social media users found her top inappropriate for a religious place of worship. While Nysa has not spoken about the ire she faced, her father Ajay has often declared that star kids shouldn’t suffer because of their famous parents.
