Dubai: In the absence of roads in Kondagaon's Mohanbeda village in the Chhattisgarh state of India, a pregnant woman was carried to the hospital for delivery on a makeshift handmade stretcher by the healthcare workers on Tuesday.

The incident has outraged the social media users and they are alerting the authorities by tagging them on their twitter handles.

A twitter user@ua_shirin posted: "Sad that a country that produces the best scientist, the best tech wizards, the best doctors, most billionaires, but none here to help this lady produce [deliver] her new born with those facilities. Salute to the family. Who knows one more genius will be born here.” @PMOIndia @narendramodi

The video of the incident has yet again raised the issue of medical negligence in rural areas of India.

Reportedly, during the rainy season, it becomes difficult to take any vehicle to the village area as there are no roads.

Another user @@kanchangoswami4 tweeted: "Why this kind of horrific, pathetic situation is happening in India after seventy years of independence , couldn't able to give the basic services to our poor brothers. It is my sincere request to our responsible government of India and concerned state to look into it. Thank you." @OfficeOfNG

According to a news source, T.R. Kunwar, Chief Medical Health Officer Kondagaon said: "We received a call asking for an ambulance for a pregnant woman from Mohanbeda village. But due to rain, it was not possible to take the ambulance to the village. Workers from the hospital took the 'dola' (a handmade stretcher) and helped the woman reach the hospital after covering 3km distance. She arrived at the hospital on time for delivery. We performed the surgery, and she gave birth to a healthy baby girl."

In the recent past, there have been similar incidents wherein husband, relatives or male members were forced to carry pregnant women to the hospital due to the lack of proper roads or unavailability of an ambulance.

The video has garnered over 50k views and is still trending.
