Dubai: Indian Congress party President Rahul Gandhi has openly challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi yet again on twitter, using #Scared2Debate, sending Indian tweeps into a frenzy.
The hashtag was a top trend on Twitter. The Indian general elections start on Thursday April 11, and there is a lot at stake.
Gandhi took to Twitter to challenge Modi on corruption and tweeted: “Dear PM, Scared of debating me on corruption? I can make it easier for you. Let’s go open book, so you can prepare: 1. RAFALE, Anil Ambani 2. Nirav Modi 3. Amit Shah, Demonetisation #Scared2Debate.”
His post received more than 29,000 likes. Some users praised his effort while others accused the Congress party of corruption.
Tweep @sanjukta posted: “Tweeted at 1.39 p.m., and got 4,400 Likes by 1.54 pm? How can you not love this intellectual aggressiveness?”
While @geetv79 posted: “#ModiDemonetisationScam was the biggest and most anti-national scam in the world, enriching fake Chowkidars (watchmen) and their selected cronies, at the expense of damaging the nation’s economy… and agriculture sectors and 99 per cent of the population. No wonder he’s #Scared2Debate.”
And user @UrstrulyHJ posted: “Dear @RahulGandhi (on bail) can you please explain national Herald case in an open debate with @Swamy39?”
After releasing the Congress manifesto in the beginning of April, Gandhi had challenged Modi to a debate on national security, corruption and foreign policy, according to a report by the Indian newspaper Times of India.
The BJP released their party manifesto yesterday and #BJPManifesto2019 was a top trend on Twitter.
Gandhi again took to twitter to discuss the Opposition’s promises and tweeted: “The Congress manifesto was created through discussion. The voice of over a million Indian people - it is wise and powerful. The BJP Manifesto was created in a closed room. The voice of an isolated man, it is short sighted and arrogant.”
Gandhi’s instigation began on April 7, when he took to twitter to share an old interview of Modi, which was viewed more than a million times.
Gandhi captioned it: “You can run Mr Modi but you can’t hide. Your karma is about to catch up with you. The country can hear it in your voice. Truth is a powerful thing. I challenge you to a debate on corruption.”
