India: Doctor dies of cardiac arrest in ICU while treating a heart patient
Villagers in shock as patient who was taken to nearby town also dies
Hyderabad: In a bizarre incident, a doctor died of cardiac arrest in Intensive Care Unit while attending to a heart patient.
The incident occurred in Gandhari mandal of Kamareddy district in Telangana, about 100km north of Hyderabad when 45-year-old Dr. Lakshman rushed to his hospital on hearing about a senior citizen suffering a heart attack.
It was while attending to 62-year-old Kethavath Jaggu in the ICU at his private hospital, the doctor suffered heart attack and collapsed. The other doctors and staff members tried to give him medical help but failed to revive him.
Meanwhile, the panic stricken attendants of Jaggu tried to rush him in an ambulance to Kamareddy town but he too died on the way to the hospital.
Dr. Lakshman, an Assistant Professor at Gandhi Medical College in Nizamabad, had recently opened SV Srija Multi Specialty Hospital at Gandhari in tribal area.
The patient Jaggu was brought from a nearby tribal hamlet Gajjalu Tanda where he had suffered heart attack in the morning.
Deaths of the doctor and the patient left the people in the area shocked. It also triggered a concern in the medical fraternity about the pressure under which the doctors were working.
Dr Lakshman who hails from Mahbubabad district and was working in Nizamabad and Gandhari was survived by wife Snehlata and two daughters aged 12 and 7.
