Patna: A Grade 12 student from Bihar has got a scholarship worth Rs20 million from a prestigious university in the United States to pursue a bachelor of degree course in Computer Science.

18-year-old Abhinav Khanna received the prestigious Davis Scholarship from US’s Case Western Reserve University a couple of day back. The scholarship will cover his full tution along with other expenses for four years during his undergraduate degree at the University.

“It is my honor to inform you that you have been admitted to our class,” Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Robert R McCullough wrote in a communication to Abhinav.

He added, “The admission committee is confident you are the kind of student who will excel in Case Western Reserve’s learning environment, recognized for rigorous academic programs, research and experiential learning opportunities, and supportive mentors and peers.”

Abhinav who stays in Rajendra Nagar locality of Patna is very pleased on his section for admission to a reputed US institute.

“I feel privileged to receive this scholarship to study at one of America’s leading research university — an institution with such rich history,” he said in a statement. Abhinav’s father Dolan Khanna is a small business owner while his mother Anju Khanna is a homemaker.

The boy passed the Grade 10 examination from Delhi Public School, Patna and Grade 12 examination from Mahindra United World College, Pune, a private senior secondary school affiliated to International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). It was during his study at Pune institute that he applied for his scholarship to a US university and was selected.

A world-class research university established in 1826 and located in Cleveland, Ohio, Case Western is consistently ranked among the leading research universities in the United States and is famous for producing 17 Nobel laureates so far — one of the highest among educational institutions in the world.
