Patna: A six-month-old who was declared dead by a doctor in the Indian state of Bihar woke up while being laid to rest in a freshly dug grave on Monday.

The incident took place in the Khairabad locality, which is under the jurisdiction of the police station in Nalanda, the home district of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.

Six-month-old Deepak Kumar, son of a rickshaw-puller Pawan Ram, fell seriously sick on Monday apparently after having suffered a heat stroke. He was soon rushed to a local doctor who declared him dead after finding him motionless.

Soon, wailing family members carried the baby to a graveyard outside the village.

Witnesses said even as the family members were covering the body with soil, someone in the crowd noticed movement and suggested the victim’s father take the baby out of the ground.

The baby was soon rushed to the local state-run government hospital where the doctors on duty admitted him to the emergency ward after finding his condition critical. But he survived after proper medical care.

Doctors said the baby is now safe.

“This is really incredible. We have not come across such a news before in my whole lifetime,” said local police official Deepak Kumar.

The medical practitioner who declared the baby dead has fled his clinic since then.
