Abu Dhabi: All bus drivers in Abu Dhabi Emirate, and more than 80 per cent of taxi drivers, have already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) announced on Thursday.

In total, 7,166 drivers were vaccinated by the end of May, including all 1,460 public bus drivers, and 5,706 taxi drivers. The vaccinations were undertaken during a campaign carried out by the emirate’s public transport regulator, part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, in coordination with the Department of Health and public health provider, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha).

The campaign aims to vaccinate all employees and workers in the transport sectors in order to limit the COVID-19 outbreak, especially those who are in direct contact regularly with public transport users.

The ITC also called upon all remaining taxi drivers to get the jabs in order to protect themselves from COVID-19 while also enhancing public safety.

Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, ITC has implemented a number of measures to keep public transport users safe. Daily sanitisation of vehicles, social distancing on public buses, and the launch of cashless payments on taxis were all rolled out to limit the spread of the infectious disease.
