Abu Dhabi: Citizens and residents of the capital Abu Dhabi flocked in large numbers to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) to participate in the second round of the city’s ‘Tarahum for Gaza’ campaign this morning.

Volunteers from across all ages and abilities could be seen pitching in with their services to pack relief supplies for Palestinians affected by the war in the Gaza Strip. Many women, children and people of determination were among those present.

Rashid Al Mansouri, Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs at the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, said, “Around 3,500 volunteers participated today in the “Tarahum for Gaza” campaign in Abu Dhabi. Today is the second week of the start of the initiative under the umbrella of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emirates Red Crescent, and charitable and humanitarian institutions in the UAE."

He said, "We found great cooperation from all categories of citizens and fellow residents. We also noticed that the volume of participation from people all nationalities residing in the emirates was large. And whoever did not find a dirham to pay to contribute brought with them their children and family members to help prepare relief packages. We thank everyone who contributed to the campaign.”

The launch of this campaign comes in cooperation with the World Food Programme, and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Community Development, the Emirates Red Crescent and civil society institutions, as part of the humanitarian efforts undertaken by the UAE to provide urgent assistance to the Palestinian people.

The 'Tarahum for Gaza' campaign also aims to show solidarity with Palestinian children, women and families affected by the ongoing war, and aims to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable groups.

The first round of the campaign held in Abu Dhabi last week saw nearly 4,500 volunteers pack 13,000 relief boxes.
