UAE strongly refutes Qatari allegations
Statement says UAE 'denies any violation of International Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination'
Geneva: The UAE has refuted Qatar's allegations that the country violated the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination (ICERD).
In a statement delivered on behalf of the Arab Quartet boycotting Qatar over its support for terrorism, the UAE, speaking in a right of reply to a statement delivered by Qatar as part of the general debate of the 9th article of the 30th Human Right Council Session agenda, said that Qatar should not use the Council to politicise issues.
"Qatar was the origin of the crisis. The United Arab Emirates denies any violation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination. There had been no definitive verdict as of yet at the International Court of Justice, but the United Arab Emirates followed the case with great interest and would assess their decision to establish the falseness of the claims therein," said the statement delivered by Mohammad Saleh Al Shamsi, Second Secretary of the UAE Permanent Mission to the UN, in the name of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt, and on behalf of Obaid Salem Al Za'abi, the UAE Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva.
The International Court of Justice refused to grant any of the 11 provisional measures specifically requested by Qatar.
By a very narrow margin, the Court indicated only three measures with which the UAE is already in compliance, added the statement.
