Al Wathba Wetland Reserve to reopen to visitors on January 1, 2021
Free entry for all to reserve that houses more than 260 species, and has 2 walking trails
Abu Dhabi: Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in Abu Dhabi is set to reopen to visitors on New Year’s Day.
The reserve, which is home to more than 260 species, including the Greater Flamingo, will be open on Friday, January 1. The reserve will thereafter continue to be open every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 8am until 6pm.
According to the Environmental Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD), the emirate’s environment sector regulator, the reserve is a haven for more than 230 species of migratory birds, as well as 11 mammals and 10 reptiles. It also houses more than 35 plant species.
The reserve features two walking trails – one that extends 1.5km and another that is 3km long. A viewing platform allows visitors to closely observe wildlife in their natural habitat.
Al Wathba’s reserve is the first nature reserve to be established in the emirate.
Entry is free for all visitors, but they must all follow COVID-19 precautionary measures like mask wearing and social distancing.
