Ajman One tower fire in UAE: 256 residents displaced as 64 apartments damaged

Affected tenants of Tower 02 have been put up in hotels by charity establishments

Ajman: As many as 256 people have been provided hotel stay after a huge fire engulfed Tower 02 of Ajman One residential complex in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Ghaith Khalifa Al Kaabi, Director of Al Madina Comprehensive Police Station at Ajman Police, said 64 apartments and 10 vehicles were damaged in the blaze, with one car completely burnt out.

Lt Col Al Kaabi said added that the police had immediately began transporting and housing 256 people in hotels in Ajman, in coordination with the Emirates Red Crescent and the Charity Association, and providing seven buses in cooperation with the Transport Authority.

Police are also supervising work efforts to restore the electric connection to the tower in coordination with the Civil Defence, to enable residents to return to apartments that were not damaged in the fire.

Mobile operations room

Lt Col Al Kaabi said the police equipped the mobile operations room at the site as a centre for providing services, which contributed to managing the event and transferring the fire operation and events of scene to the main operations room, in addition to meeting the requests and needs of the residents and following up on their affairs, stressing that the Al Madina comprehensive police station will provide all the services and needs required by the residents of the tower onsite.

What caused the fire?

He added that research and investigation efforts are underway to identify the cause of the fire, by examining the forensic evidence from the damaged building and apartments, and the police are seeking, in cooperation with the concerned authorities, to make every effort to manage the crisis and achieve a speedy response in the best possible ways to restore life to normal and support those affected to return to their homes as soon as possible.
