UK tourist freed in Turkey by Kurdish kidnappers

Ankara: Officials say a British tourist has been released unharmed by Kurdish rebels who kidnapped him in Turkey's southeast and held him hostage for less than two days.

Britain's Foreign Office confirmed the abduction and the subsequent release of the man, but didn't provide his name.

Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency, citing police, identified the man as James Masami Miyazaki-Ross. It says he was freed Monday near the town of Genc, about 40km north of where he was kidnapped.

The man was traveling on a passenger bus when abducted by the rebels on Saturday night near the town of Lice.

Kurdish rebels, fighting for autonomy, have kidnapped but released several foreign tourists unharmed to attract world attention to their cause since they took up arms in 1984.
