Sharjah: More than Dh30 million was raised on Friday during a live telethon conducted by Sharjah TV in aid of the victims of the drought in Somalia.
The four-and-a-half-hour telethon was organised by Sharjah Media Corporation and Sharjah Charity on the instructions of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
People called the programme Aghithona, meaning ‘Save us’, to donate.
More than 165 million people are hit by famine and nearly 29,000 children have died of hunger in Somalia.
