Tripoli: A bus transporting 25 Syrian laborers was attacked in Northern Lebanon early Monday morning, leaving one passenger dead and several others wounded.
The bus, which was transporting 25 Syrian labourers, was travelling near an army checkpoint along the main highway between Syria and northern Lebanon when the incident took place at about 3:00 am.
Three windows on the driver's side were shattered by the bullets and the tyres also bore bullet holes.
The victim was only 17. The attack happened in the Deir Ammar district about five kilometers north of Tripoli.
The mayor of Deir Ammar, Ahmad Eid, condemned the incident, which came a day after Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri vowed to open constructive relations with its Syrian neighbor.
"This could be an isolated incident but there are some who will try to take political advantage from it," Eid said.
