Hanoi: Iraq has bought 30,000 tonnes of Vietnamese rice via a tender for shipment early next year, a trade source said on Tuesday.

Iraq bought the long grain, 5 per cent broken rice from a European trading firm at $411 per tonne, free-on-board basis, for shipment in January and February, said the trader who was close to the deal.

Iraq's Grain Board was close to buying up to 300,000 tonnes of mostly Russian, German and some Canadian hard red winter wheat and 80,000 tonnes of Vietnamese, Indian and Pakistani long grain rice, trade sources said on Monday.
