Algiers: At least 25 people were wounded after a car bomb exploded near a police station in a town east of Algiers on Sunday, the Interior Ministry said.

A previous official toll said 21 people were wounded in the explosion in Tizi Ouzou town in northern Algeria.

Four policemen were among those injured in the bombing near a police station in the town, Interior Minister Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni said.

The explosion dug a big crater in the road beside the police station and damaged nearby buildings, the APS news agency reported.

Private news websites described the blast as having been caused by a suicide bomber, although there was no immediate confirmation of that.
