Cairo: A Saudi farmer has said that a super-eggplant weighing as much as 2kg per piece has successfully been grown in his farmland in the south-western part of the kingdom.

In an interview with the Saudi television Al Ekhbariya from the farmland in the Fayfa governorate, the man said they started the eggplant cultivation three months ago and the experiment proved successful.

“The experiment has resulted in unexpectedly big-sized eggplant that is not available at the market.”

He noted that between 50 and 100 eggplant trees have been planted in the farmland.

“Eggplant grows naturally and does not require pesticides or intensive care.”

Eggplant is so low in calories and high in fibre that it makes one feel full for long, thus being beneficial to any weight management plan.

Work on the Fayfa farmland started around 14 years ago and gradually lemons, mangoes, guava, and almond trees have been planted there, according to the farmer. Recently, the cultivation of other crops such as eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini and cucumbers has followed.
