Saudis urge world action against Iran

Cairo: Saudi Arabia has urged the world community to “face its responsibilities” and counter Iran’s violations of international accords, mainly a 2015 deal on its nuclear programme.

The call was made by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan at a virtual UN ceremony marking the International Day for Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

“The Iranian stock of enriched uranium is currently 10 times higher than the limit stipulated in the nuclear agreement,” he said, referring to the 2015 deal between Iran and major world powers.

“The kingdom sees it is necessary for the world community to be united against any country seeking to acquire nuclear weapons, especially the countries with aggressive behaviour that seek to destabilise international security by funding outlawed terrorist militias and providing them with arms,” he added.

Iran has been repeatedly accused of meddling in internal affairs of other countries and sponsoring armed proxy groups in the Middle East.
