Cairo: A Saudi man accused his estranged wife of attacking him with acid while he was sleeping in their house, a Saudi newspaper reported Sunday.

“I was sleeping in the reception area of my house when my second wife sprayed a caustic liquid on my body and face,” the man told online newspaper Sabq.

After the attack, the wife allegedly tried to prevent the spouse from leaving the house. “She kept vowing to kill me until I found the keys and got out calling for help from the neighbours because I could not see properly and my body was burning,” he claimed.

The man, whose identity was not disclosed, attributed the attack to an unspecified dispute between them.

“I had told her I would sleep in the reception area and would escort her to her family’s home in the morning. But I was stunned by her act during my sleep,” he added.

The man was taken to a hospital in Saudi Arabia’s south-western region of Jazan.

Prosecutors interrogated the suspected assailant and released her on bail pending further investigations, according to the report.
