Abu Dhabi: Saudi police have arrested a young citizen for allegedly harassing a woman, police said.

The Saudi man, in his 30s, was seen harassing a woman in a video circulating on social media, media spokesman for the Eastern Region Police, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed bin Shar Al Shehri, said.

“The man was arrested and preliminary legal procedures were taken against him and referred to public prosecution,” Colonel Al Shehri added.

Hefty fine

Saudi Arabia’s anti-harassment law provides for penalties of up to two years in prison and fines of up to SR100,000 ($26,664.5).

In May 2018, the Shoura Council and Cabinet approved legislation, that criminalized sexual harassment.
