Muslim world pledges to stamp out roots of terrorism

Riyadh: Saudi foreign minister Adel Al Jubeir has heralded a new chapter in Arab-Islamic relations during a key summit in Riyadh Sunday.

Leaders of Arab and Muslim countries gathered in the Saudi capital and affirmed to work together to address the roots of terrorism and dry up its sources of funding.

“The Riyadh Declaration underlines the importance of countering terrorism,” Al Jubeir said at a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson at the end of the summit.

The Saudi foreign minister said that the critical situation of global terrorism made the partnership between the US and the Muslim world ever more important.

On his part, Tillerson said that he saw a serious commitment and intention from Saudi Arabia to stamp out terrorism.

“Eliminating terrorism would improve human rights everywhere,” Tillerson said, pointing out the fight agaisnt terror would not be directed towards a specific religion or ethnicity.

He singled-out Iranian regime as chief supporter of terrorism in the region.

“Iran must stop its support for terrorism and stop its interference in the affairs of neighbouring countries,” he said.
