King Fahd Causeway: Entry limited to travellers with approved jabs

Cairo: Travellers using the King Fahd Causeway to enter Saudi Arabia from Bahrain must have been inoculated with vaccinates approved in Saudi Arabia, according to a Saudi newspaper.

Meanwhile, passengers allowed to travel from Saudi Arabia via the causeway must have received two doses of the vaccine, according to the Interior Ministry’s travel update. People under 18 years are barred from using the facility, Ajel online newspaper reported.

Saudi health authorities have authorised the vaccines Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca for use in the kingdom.

Saudi Arabia initiated mass vaccinations in December and over 13 million doses have since been administered, according to figures from the Health Ministry.

The 25km-long causeway was shut in March last year as part of a string of measures to fight the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The facility was reopened four months later as the Gulf countries have eased virus-related measures to prop up the economy.

The bridge was inaugurated in 1986 and has since been vital for movement between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, two members of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council.
