Manama: Four people, three men and one woman, were killed this morning when their vehicles were hit by a military truck in south-western Saudi Arabia.

Four more people are being treated at a hospital in the Aseer area, amid concerns that none of them would survive the incident, which occurred on a bridge at around 9am.

Initial reports claimed that the truck driver had lost control of his heavy vehicle and smashed into three cars. The driver was reportedly injured in the crash and was taken to hospital.

Saudi Arabia has a high traffic fatality count despite regular campaigns by authorities to improve driving standards and boost full compliance with road rules and regulations.
