The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) hosted an exhibition entitled Dhow Racing, illustrating Dubai's traditional dhow-racing culture, by Scott artist Alastair Houston.
The exhibition, held at the Dubai Museum, offered a pictorial insight into Dubai's seafaring practices revolving around the dhow.
"Having painted many marine subjects over the years, when the idea to come over from Scotland to the UAE and paint these beautiful crafts came to me, I knew that the experience would be something very special," Houston explained.
"On my very first visit I discovered that great tradition to uphold dhow racing is very much alive and for me this is a great cause, the very roots of the nation and heritage are being preserved for generations to come," he said.
Ayesha Abdullah, manager, Dubai Museum, said: It is a great pleasure and honour to be associated with heritage activities. This is an excellent opportunity to document and showcase our inherited traditions."
